Concrete Pocket Penetrometer

Applications

The Concrete Pocket Penetrometer is used to determine the "initial set" of concrete mortar as described in ASTM C-403. Operation is based on the spring-reaction principle. In use, the penetrometer tip is pushed into the mortar to a depth of one inch (2.54 cm), as indicated on the shaft, at periodic intervals. The Penetrometer has a precise tip area of 0.05 in2. (32 mm2) and a calibrated range of 0 -700 psi (0 - 4.8 MPa), with the resistance in psi shown on the scale.
