Why won’t my Digitilt Reader app connect?

A1: Tap Settings > Application Manager > Digitilt Reader > Force Close. Then return to the home screen and restart the Digitilt Reader app.

A2: Are you running the Reader app on other tablets too? One of them may be connected. To break the connection, switch off that Reel’s Bluetooth.

Are there settings to make hands-free mode work better?

Yes. The settings can be adjusted to the way you work and also variables at the site (such as a lot of ground vibration).

      1. Turn sound off, so you can concentrate on the action rather than the record sound.
      2. Tap Options > Survey Control.
      3. Make a change. It is best to experiment with just one change at a time rather than making lots of changes all at once.
      4. Tap “done” – the checkmark – to save the change.

      Here are some suggestions:

      • If the Reader depth is shallower than your cable depth, try setting “pull lockout” to 3 or a higher number. This tells the Reader to delay longer before accepting new input. You’ll see that the “saved” message appears for 3 seconds now. Experiment to find the right lockout timing. New users need a longer lockout, while expert users may prefer a shorter lockout.
      • If your cable depth is shallower than your Reader depth, try setting “motion” to a lower number, for example 80. Users who pull slowly need a lower number. Users who pull quickly can use a higher number.
      • If there is a lot of ground vibration at your site, you might need to use “Tap” mode, but you could try setting “motion” to a higher number and then pull quickly rather than slowly. The higher number decreases sensitivity to the ground motion, so you must accelerate the probe faster so that a pull can be detected.

How do I obtain the Digitilt Reader app?

Download it from the Google Play Store.

      1. Tap the Google Play icon on your Android device.
      2. Search for Digitilt Reader.
      3. Tap Install.
      4. Tap “Accept and Download” after reviewing permissions.
      5. The Digitilt Reader icon appears in your app drawer. If it does not appear on your home screen, open the app drawer to find the icon. Then tap and hold the icon. When you release, it will be placed on one of your home screens.

How can I install the Reader app if I do not have a WIFI connection?

      Follow the steps below.

      1. Download this file to your PC: Digitilt Reader APK. (APK is an Android setup file).
      2. Connect the Android device to the PC using the USB cable supplied with the Android device.
      3. Use Windows Explorer on your PC to copy the APK file to the Android device. Any location is ok, but remember where you saved the file. After copying the file, disconnect the device.
      4. Open a File Manager program on your Android device – for example, My Files on a Samsung device.
      5. Locate the apk file and tap it. You may need to authorize the installation of applications from sources other than the Google Play Store.
      6. Now you can run the Reader app.

What do I do if the tablet does not allow entering decimals?

Download an alternate keyboard from the Google Play Store (such as the free Google Keyboard) that does have a decimal separator. You will need to set this as your default keyboard for your tablet.

How can I change displayed units?

Set default “display units” in the inclinometer settings. If you are taking readings and want to see a different unit, tap the unit label. For example, if the unit label is mm, tap the mm to toggle Digi-Metric or Digi-Native.

Do I have to pair the Reader and the Reel every time that I use the system?

No. Pairing is a one-time operation in which Reader and Reel exchange Bluetooth IDs. After that, the Reader remembers the Reel, even if you switch Bluetooth off.
